How to Delete Applications on Mac Permanently?

Uninstalling Mac software programs is a bit different to the process on a Windows PC, and there are some stubborn Mac applications that even the best of us have troubling getting rid of. But there's always a solution.

Here are the quick methods and steps to remove, delete, or uninstall the unwanted installed applications or programs from a Mac computer fully. Check out below…

There are 3 ways to delete applications on Mac, 1 - using the apps icon, 2 - using the application uninstaller, and 3 – using drag and drop in trash.

#1.  Using the Apps icon

This is very basic method to delete the apps. So to remove an installed app from Mac just click the Launchpad icon (an icon in Rocket shape). Now pick an icon and click and hold the click on that icon for some time.

Now every icon on screen will start jiggling and you will see a crossed mark on some icons. This cross mark indicates that you can delete them right from here.

So to uninstall, click on the crossed mark and the selected app will be deleted successfully from the system.

If you later want the app, you can reinstall it from the App Store.

This is just the basic method and number of applications does not accept this method. So in that case you have to try the other ways.

#2  Delete App using the Application Uninstaller

Some apps have an uninstaller (ex: Photoshop have an uninstaller). If you find an app with uninstaller, then you can use that uninstaller to remove it completely from Mac.

To remove app…

  • Click Applications and Open the app folder and check for an uninstaller.
  • Just double click on the uninstaller icon and follow the onscreen instructions.
  • After this, the app will be deleted from your system.

For most applications, there is no uninstaller. If app doesn’t have an Uninstaller, then follow the steps mentioned in the 3rd method.

#3 Using Drag and Drop in Trash

The drag and drop method works for all applications. In this method, the selected application is moved in the trash and it gets uninstalled from system easily and quickly. So to delete an app using this method, you have to…

  • Open the Application Folder.
  • Now Select the App and Drag it to Trash or
  • Select the App, Right Click on it and Move to Trash.
  • After this empty the Trash.

So using this, you can successfully remove the installed applications form the system without any utility program.

However if you don’t want to uninstall apps on Mac manually, then we recommend the cCleaner. This utility program will delete the selected applications including the settings in just one click and also removes the apps from your trash folder.

The cCleaner not only delete the installed applications but also saves the disk space and optimize the PC speed. After using this utility, you can find the difference in PC speed. The opening and closing time of applications would be reduced; hence you can access everything fast.
